Information

With ongoing development and rapid population growth, the City Centre community is experiencing increasing enrolment pressures as thousands of students move to Surrey annually. To help accommodate this growth, a new elementary school is set to open at 13104 109th Ave. at the start of the 2025-26 school year. The new elementary school will help to address overcrowding in the area.

To prepare for the opening of this new elementary school, a catchment boundary needs to be established to balance student capacity in the neighbourhood. The district is recommending drawing a boundary through the current École K.B. Woodward Elementary catchment along 108th Avenue.

Students living north of 108th Avenue would attend the new elementary school while students south of 108th Avenue would remain at École K.B. Woodward. This boundary change would take effect at the start of the 2025-26 school year.

Students, staff, parents and community members are invited to provide feedback on the recommendation and share their thoughts on the catchment boundary for the new elementary school.

How can you be involved?

ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ values the input and priorities of parents and students in catchment boundary adjustments. Please review the information regarding the recommendation in the Information Package.

We encourage parents and students to provide feedback by completing the survey on the consultation website (survey launches October 10, 2024). The consultation period runs through November 12, 2024.

In addition, an in-person open house will be held for the district to share information about the potential boundary change. The open house takes place October 23, 2024 from 6 to 7 p.m.:

  • École K.B. Woodward Elementary, 13130 106th Ave., Surrey

Families are encouraged to review the information in this package and provide feedback through the online survey or by email at consultations@surreyschools.ca.

Introducing the Recommendation

Recommended Boundary for New City Centre Elementary School (click to expand)

The recommendation presented in this package aims to establish a new catchment and balance enrolment in the area.

In preparation, the school district was guided by the Surrey Board of Education policy, specifically, Policy 9200: School Catchment Areas, and Policy 9320: Registration and Placement of Students.

Recommendation: École K.B. Woodward (north of 108th Ave.) to New Elementary School

Students in the École K.B. Woodward Elementary catchment living north of 108th Ave. would attend the new elementary school, starting in the 2025-26 school year. This would be an immediate move for kindergarten to Grade 6 students upon opening of the school. Students entering Grade 7 and their younger siblings would have the option to remain at École KB Woodward.

The recommendation also includes redrawing the western boundary of the new elementary catchment along
128th Street. This would not impact any current students.

Please use the online survey to share your suggestions.
