Procedure 2940.1 - Board Gifts - Dignitaries & Guests


The following guidelines have been approved to assist the Surrey Board of Education in the presentation of gifts and mementos to visiting dignitaries and guests: 

Senior Representative of The Government Of Canada or Foreign Government

A significant gift reflecting the status and position of the person with a value up to $500 to be presented by the board chairperson or appropriate designate.

Senior Representative of The Government of British Columbia

An appropriate gift reflecting the status and position of the person with a value up to $250 to be presented by the board chairperson or appropriate designate.

Senior Representative of a Canadian or Foreign Educational Agency

A gift which is representative of the school district and has a value not to exceed $100.

Guests Accompanying a Canadian Foreign Educational Agency

Mementos and small gifts of a value not to exceed $10 each can be presented to each guest accompanying a Canadian or foreign educational agency. These gifts could include school district pins, coffee mugs, pens and other appropriate items.

Tokens of Appreciation Given by Trustees on Visits

Trustees will be provided annually with a budget to cover the costs of mementos and gifts to be given out at official visits to their hosts and attendees with the aggregate costs of each trustee activity not to exceed their annual budget.
